WELL-BEING | |||||||||||||||
Well-Being - Is said to be strongly linked to your overall happiness and life satisfaction.
In short, well-being could be described as how you feel about yourself and your life.
In other words: - Your Lifestyle!
Social Well-Being:-
Is the extent to which you feel a sense of belonging and social inclusion; a connected person is a supported person in society. Lifestyles, ways of living together, value systems, traditions and beliefs are all important to our social well-being and quality of life. That of course does not mean that we need to live with an unhealthy lifestyle. Its simply a matter of choosing a lifestyle that is good for us, healthy and liveable.
Physical Well-Being:-
It is widely known that poor lifestyle choices often lead to the development of chronic disease, many defined as an incurable illness or health condition, and in most cases can persist for in excess of a year or more, often resulting in physical and functional limitations and the need for ongoing medical care.
Examples of these illnesses or conditions resulting from a poor lifestyle choice include, but are not limited to: Obesity, cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes.
Despite current medical knowledge of preventability and manageability, either through early detection, treatment and/or healthy lifestyle, chronic disease is still on the rise throughout, not only the UK, but worldwide.
The epidemic of Type 2 diabetes being the prevalent problem throughout the UK and costing the NHS Billions of pounds each year, and rising at an alarming rate year on year.
It is widely believed that the diabetes epidemic is largely focused around the massively increased rates of obesity, which without a underlying specific medical problem, may have been prevented by following a healthy lifestyle. Looking at the figures in the photograph above, it is clear to see that by tackling both obesity and Type 2 diabetes, the cost to the NHS could be more than halved!
Emotional Well-Being - Related to your mental health concerns such as:-
Choosing the right lifestyle needs to balance all areas of your life. It is of little use having a lifestyle that is socially acceptable and healthy in relation to food/nutrition and movement/exercise, if you are not happy or content with it.
Getting stressed, depressed or anxious can contribute to physical ill-health such as digestive disorders, sleep disturbances, and general lack of energy.
You need to want to live a certain way, (lifestyle), or you dont, its that simple!
For some people living with obesity, chronic illness like Type 2 diabetes, or maybe Gout, is an acceptable lifestyle to them, for other people it may not be.
Everyone on this planet is different and makes their own choices as to what lifestyle they want to live. In doing so their well-being follows suit.
